Rural Groundwater Resilience Workshop: Northern Arizona - Coconino Plateau

The Arizona Water Innovation Initiative, in partnership with the Arizona Institute for Resilience at the University of Arizona, and the Lincoln Institute’s Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy, lead the Rural Groundwater Resilience Workshop series.

Co-designed with each community, our workshops combine science, policy, and engagement to help Arizonans tackle rural groundwater challenges. We provide facts, tools, and resources to support local conversations and groundwater protection strategies.

Northern Arizona - Coconino Plateau hosted a Rural Groundwater Resilience Workshop in June 2025.

Workshop Highlights

  • 60 participants representing: Elected Officials, Local and Federal Government, Tribal, Water Industry, Economic Development, and Coconino Plateau Watershed Partnership.
  • Catalyzed cross-sector collaboration for better local groundwater data, stronger coordination across jurisdictions and policy dialogue to balance growth with long-term water sustainability.
  • Built momentum for continued collaboration, including the development of a web-based tool to track groundwater trends and support local decision-making.
